“Wimp” Sanderson Takes a Timeout for The Salvation Army
Former Alabama basketball coach “Wimp” Sanderson will be taking time out of his busy schedule to be the guest speaker for the 2012 Shelby County Salvation Army Annual Dinner October 25, 2012 at 7pm. There will also be a silent auction at 6pm. Those attending will have a chance to bid on items such as hot air balloon rides, golf at Ballantrae, artwork , autographed Alabama memorabilia and much more. Sanderson is currently the co-host of “Straight Talk” on WJOX 97.3, but he coached basketball at the University of Alabama from 1981 to 1992 and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock from 1994 to 1999. In 11 years as head coach his teams averaged 21.8 wins a year, with a 267-119 record, and they won 5 SEC tournaments. They played in one NIT and ten NCAA tournaments making the “Sweet 16″ six times. He is only coach in Alabama history to win 200 or more games in his first 10 years. He was the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 1987, 1989 and 1990, and was the National Coach of the Year in 1987. There are no more seats available for this dinner and auction that will take place at the Pelham Civic Complex . All proceeds benefit services of The Shelby County Salvation Army.
