Local Officers Leaving

The Birmingham Salvation Army is sad to be saying goodbye to two sets of officers this weekend. Sunday is the last day and Sunday service for Major’s Cathy & Matthew Riley and Captains Jenny & Andy Bailey.

The Riley’s have had the chance to mold an incredible program of spirituality at our”614″ Corp location here in Birmingham for 9 years, a rare accomplishment in the life of a Salvation Army officer. Most are transferred to different posts about every three years. ”We had no idea the amount of time we would spend here,” said Major Riley. ”It has been great to form the relationships we have over the years.” (Click here to see a brief interview with Major Matthew Riley) In their time here, there have been many days going door to door and reaching out to those in tough situations. Sunday’s have seen a congregation grow and grow with enthusiasm and hope for many lost souls. Anyone that has been guided to Christ by the Riley’s will tell you their influence brought hope to their life. The Riley’s will be the new Corp officers in Huntington, West Virginia.

The Bailey’s have also crafted a wonderful program of helping others in Shelby and Chilton County for four and a half years.  Their reach has opened doors for so many that needed assistance. They established services and programs that weren’t available before them, and they leave their mark and a high standard for those replacing them. I was touched by their personal and inspiring story of how they came to walk with God. Click here to read their story. Passion doesn’t come close to describing how the Bailey’s approach their daily life. It is contagious and amazing to be a part of. They will be the new Corp officers in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Captain Andy is looking forward to living near the water, complete with a boat…with his wife’s permission of course.

They are all awesome people with many gifts that God has bestowed upon them. We will sorely miss them and wish them love and peace in their new appointments.

New officers will be in place soon and we will have all the details on them for you.
